Nonlinear Diffusion and Image Contour Enhancement
نویسنده
چکیده
The theory of degenerate parabolic equations of the forms ut = (Φ(ux))x and vt = (Φ(v))xx is used to analyze the process of contour enhancement in image processing, based on the evolution model of Sethian and Malladi. The problem is studied in the framework of nonlinear diffusion equations. It turns out that the standard initial-value problem solved in this theory does not fit the present application since it it does not produce image concentration. Due to the degenerate character of the diffusivity at high gradient values, a new free boundary problem with singular boundary data can be introduced, and it can be solved by means of a non-trivial problem transformation. The asymptotic convergence to a sharp contour is established and rates calculated.

Adaptive Bidirectional Flow for Image Interpolation and Enhancement
Image interpolation is a common problem in imaging applications. However, most interpolation algorithms in existence suffer visually the effects of blurred edges and jagged artifacts in the image to some extent. This paper presents an adaptive feature preserving bidirectional flow process, where an inverse diffusion is performed to sharpen edges along the normal directions to the isophote lines...

متن کاملLeft-invariant Parabolic Evolutions on Se(2) and Contour Enhancement via Invertible Orientation Scores Part Ii: Nonlinear Left-invariant Diffusions on Invertible Orientation Scores
By means of a special type of wavelet unitary transform we construct an orientation score from a grey-value image. This orientation score is a complex-valued function on the 2D Euclidean motion group SE(2) and gives us explicit information on the presence of local orientations in an image. As the transform between image and orientation score is unitary we can relate operators on images to opera...
متن کاملGeometry-Driven Nonlinear Equation with an Accelerating Coupled Scheme for Image Enhancement
In this paper, a geometry-driven nonlinear shock-diffusion equation is presented for image denoising and edge sharpening. An image is divided into three-type different regions according to image features: edges, textures and details, and flat areas. For edges, a shock-type backward diffusion is performed in the gradient direction to the isophote line (edge), incorporating a forward diffusion in...
متن کاملWavelet-based Image Enhancement using Nonlinear Anisotropic Diffusion
Many sensing techniques and image processing applications are characterized by random noisy, or corrupted, image data. Nonlinear Anisotropic diffusion is a popular, and theoretically well understood, technique for enhancing such images.Diffusion approaches however require the selection of an “edge stopping” function, the definition of which is typically adhoc. Many recent techniques for digital...
